Classes & Workshops

We offer creative opportunities and arts education for people of ages and abilities. Our classes happen at our Community Arts Center, the Montpelier Senior Activities Center, in schools, libraries, and community centers.

We offer classes and workshops in:

  • Visual Arts - paper maché puppet and mask making, pottery and clay sculpture, drawing, sewing
  • Yoga
  • Permaculture and community resiliency

Current Class Schedule - Winter 2026

Art classes occur either at the ATN Community Arts Center (20 Wyvern Way, East Montpelier) or at the Montpelier Senior Activities Center (MSAC) (58 Barre Street, Montpelier), indicated in each description below.

Clay Class with Janice Walrafen | AllTogetherNow! Art Tiles Studio | 10 Thursdays, (starts 1/8/26) 4-5:30pm | Open to all ages | $310 | Clay, glaze and firing are included in the class fee. Email Janice to register.
This class is open to people of all ages and abilities. for the first 5 weeks a different technique in how to work with clay is taught, and participants are free to explore creating with clay with instructors support. There are opportunities to hand build and throw on the potters wheel. All clay and glazes are non-toxic and suitable for making dish ware.

Sewing Class with Janice Walrafen | AllTogetherNow! Art Room | 8 Tuesdays, (Starts 1/6) 4 -6pm | Open to youth 8-up, teens and adults | $240 by check, $248 online | Most materials included in the class fee.  
Do you love to sew and want to learn how to make your own patterns? Do you hand sew and want to learn how to sew on the machine? Want to make your own hats, capes, cloaks, costumes, alter your own clothes? Then this class is for you! REGISTER HERE. 

Drawing Basics with Janice Walrafen at MSAC | 10 Mondays, (starts 1/5) 1:00-3:00pm | Open to public, ages 18+ | $100 member/ $125 public. Call MSAC to register: 802-223-2518  
Have you always wanted to draw, but not known where to begin? Do you love to draw, but need to set aside time to do it? This is a great beginner and refresher class. Most often working from life, each class introduces a different skill or lens to draw from, including contour, color, perspective, foreshortening, portraits, proportions, composition, and more. Great foundational skill building and enjoyable time spent drawing. Please bring a 9”x12” sketch pad, #2 HB pencils, eraser. Othe supplies needed throughout the class will be a ruler, Prismacolor white pencil, black paper, soft vine charcoal, newsprint paper and oil pastels.

Drawing the Figure with Janice Walrafen at MSAC | 5 Fridays, (starts 2/6) 1:00-3:00pm | 
Open to public, ages 18+ | $60 member/ $85 public. Call MSAC to register: 802-223-2518  
This class is open to all who are interested in drawing the figure. It is an opportunity to sketch from a live model and learn in a welcoming environment. Each week we will draw the human figure, dressed, active, reclining, hands and heads, quick studies and longer poses. No prior experience required and all levels welcome. Materials list will be sent to participants. Model fee $20.

Hand-building with Clay with Janice Walrafen | at MSAC | 10 Mondays, (starts 1/5 | 3:30-5:30pm | Open to public Ages 18+ | $100 member / $125 public | Clay, glaze and firing are paid to instructor $25 per 1/2 bag of clay. / Call MSAC to register: 802-223-2518  
This is an introductory class in the art of hand building in clay. Whether making functional pottery or sculptural pieces, we will use basic techniques such as using coils, slabs, molds, and pinch-pot methods to create pieces in accordance with individual interest. Clay is a fun, flexible material to create just about anything you can imagine. Janice has been working in clay her entire life. Her mother was a potter and Janice is a clay artist making tiles, sculptures, and vessels from slabs.
